Christmas, New Year's: What's Open, What's Closed
Here's the list of what's open and what's closed in Montgomery County on Christmas and New Year's days.
Montgomery County government follows a special holiday schedule for Christmas Day on Wednesday, Dec. 25, and for New Year's Day on Wednesday, Jan. 1, according to a statement from the county government:
County offices: Closed.
Libraries: Closed on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. All branches will close at 6 p.m. on Dec. 24 and 31. Olney Express Service will be closed Dec. 24 through Jan. 1.

County liquor stores: Closed.
Recreation: All facilities closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. Senior centers and community and neighborhood recreation centers will be closed Dec. 26 through Dec. 31. Aquatics programs operate on a modified schedule—contact each facility directly.

Montgomery Parks: All Montgomery Parks facilities are closed on both days. For operating schedules during the holidays—including at Brookside Gardens, ice rinks, tennis centers, trains and carousels—visit www.MontgomeryParks.org.
Ride On: Sunday schedule.
Metrobus: Sunday schedule.
Metrorail: Sunday schedule.
TRiPS Commuter Stores (in Silver Spring and Friendship Heights): Closed.
Refuse/recycling pickup: No collection on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. Collection will be provided one day later for the remainder of the week. (The last collection day is Saturday.)
Transfer station: Closed.
Parking at public garages, lots and curbside meters: Free of charge.
MCPS administrative offices: Closed.
State offices and courts: Closed.
