VIDEO: Rockville Police's Frigid Fundraising for Special Olympics

More than 20 officers took a dip in the chilly Chesapeake as part of the 17th annual Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge on Saturday.

Rockville city police took the plunge on Saturday. But it’s not too late to support their efforts to raise money for Special Olympics Maryland through the annual Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge.

More than 20 of Rockville’s finest plunged into the cold waters of the Chesapeake Bay as temperatures hovered near freezing at Sandy Point State Park in Annapolis, according to a news release.

The team raised more than $4,000 and has raised more than $18,000 in its four years of participation, the release said. As of Tuesday evening, K-9 Boomer has raised $2,410 through donations to his personal donations website. The team is still accepting donations.

This year’s plunge has raised more than $1.9 for Special Olympics, according to the plunge website.

Rockville city police support Special Olympics Maryland throughout the year, and have sent medal presenters to the winter and summer games, the release said.
