Rockville Police Pull Cruisers for Steering Inspections

Chief Treschuk: The move affects 24 Ford Crown Victorias. All appear to be OK.

Rockville police followed the lead of Montgomery County police last week and pulled the department’s 24 Ford Crown Victoria cruisers from service after two county police cruisers experienced steering problems, Rockville City Police Chief Terrance N. Treschuk said.

“As soon as we heard from the county about the issue, we immediately recalled them all, and had the city mechanics check on the steering components,” Treschuk said in an email. “So far all of them that have been checked did not have any issues. We appreciated the county contacting us immediately about what they found. This allowed us to act quickly to ensure the safety of our officers.”

All but one of the cruisers had been checked by Friday evening, Treschuk said.
