Report: Sentencing Postponed for Rockville Teen Who Supplied Gun in Metro Shooting

Sentencing for Tavares D. Harris, 19, of Rockville, is scheduled for June 14, The Gazette reported.

A judge has postponed sentencing for the Rockville youth who supplied the gun used in a double shooting at the Rockville Metro station so he can finish his GED, The Gazette reported.

Montgomery County Circuit Court Judge Marybeth McCormick moved sentencing to June 14 so that Tavares D. Harris, 19, of the 700 block of Fallsgrove Drive, could complete his degree, according to The Gazette.

Kevin Q. Nguyen, of the 300 block of North Van Buren Street, pleaded guilty Dec. 10 to firing the handgun—supplied by Harris—at the east entrance of the station around 2:30 p.m. on May 18, Patch reported.

Police said the shooting stemmed from an afterschool fight. The 16-year-old target and a female bystander suffered non-life threatening injuries.
