Report: DC Child Abduction Case Has Rockville Connection

The Washington Post: Kids taken from Children's National Medical Center were found at a Rockville apartment.

A woman at the center of a Washington, DC child abduction case was arrested and charged with theft and unauthorized use of a vehicle that was taken from Rockville, The Washington Post reports.

Police said on Aug. 8 Mikisha Funderburk, 27,  took her 5- and 10-year-old sons from the lobby of Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, where they were taken to be evaluated for possible child abuse, The Post reports.

After an extensive manhunt, the boys were found the same day at an apartment in Rockville. Their mother wasn’t there. Funderburk was arrested Monday in DC for the theft in Rockville, The Post reports. Her role in what police are calling an abduction case remains under investigation, The Post reports.

Maj. Michael English of the Rockville City Police Department told the newspaper that the Montgomery County charges involved the car Funderburk used on the day her sons were taken from the hospital.

Funderburk is awaiting extradition to Montgomery County, The Post reports.
