Police Investigating Armed Robbery of The Cuban Corner

A man with a butcher knife demanded money but was rebuffed by the restaurant's owner.

Montgomery County police are investigating an armed robbery of restaurant on Wednesday morning in which a man brandishing a butcher knife demanded money before fleeing the store.

Rockville city police responded to the restaurant, at 825 Hungerford Drive, near the campus, about 11:02 a.m., according to a county police news release.

According to a preliminary investigation by police, the restaurant owner was sitting at a table when the suspect entered through the front door, displayed a butcher knife and demanded money. The owner refused.

A restaurant employee heard the exchange, the release said. When the employee came to assist, the suspect fled out the front door.

There were no injuries and no money taken, said Officer Howard Hersh, a county police spokesman.

The suspect was seen getting into a tan pickup truck and driving northbound on Hungerford Drive, the release said.

The suspect is described as a man of an unknown race, standing about 5 feet 5 inches tall. He was wearing a black ski mask and a blue jacket with a hood.

Police are looking into whether there was another suspect driving the truck, Hersh said.
