Officer Flagged Down by Frantic Parents Saves Newborn Who Wasn't Breathing

Montgomery County police officer Ben Crumlin's 'ability to act quickly' saved child's life, police said.

Flagged down by parents of a 9-day-old boy, a Montgomery County police officer is being credited with saving the infant’s life Monday morning in Silver Spring.

The baby’s parents alerted patrol officer Ben Crumlin as they sped down Randolph Road near Hammonton Place at around 1 a.m. Police said they were flashing their car lights and honking in an attempt to get his attention.

When Crumlin pulled over, the parents told him they were on their way to the hospital because their baby was having trouble breathing.
