Police Clear Suspicious Package in Georgetown

An abandoned suitcase was investigated in the East Village.

Update, 12:14 p.m.

The explosives team from the Metropolitan Police Department has cleared the intersection of 31st Street and N Street NW in Georgetown.

A suitcase found on the sidewalk near that intersection was investigated as a suspicious package on Friday morning after a call was placed to police just before 10:30 a.m. The area was deemed safe after the investigation, a spokesman for the police department said.

All nearby streets are now open for traffic.

Police are investigating a report of a suspicious package at 31st and N Streets, NW in Georgetown. The call came in just before 10:30 a.m. Friday, according to MPD PIO.

Area streets are closed because of police activity:

31st Street at N Street
31st Street North of M Street
30th Street north of N Street

Drivers should avoid the area.
