Montgomery County police said alcohol appears to be a factor in a single-vehicle crash that killed a Rockville man Sunday in Aspen Hill, Montgomery County police said in a news release.

Police arrived at around 1 a.m. and pronounced David Hernanez, 47, of the 1300 block of Coral Sea Drive, dead at the scene.

Police said Hernandez, the driver, was travelling east on Aspen Hill Road when he lost control of the vehicle. Police said he drove over a curb, struck a tree and came to rest on the sidewalk at Aspen Hill Road and Iris Street.

A surviving passenger was extricated from the vehicle, police said.

The crash is still under investigation.
