UPDATED Rockville Pike Reopened After Hazmat Incident Near Town Square

Chemical smell spurred building evacuation, a fire and rescue spokesman tells Patch.

Updated 11:30 a.m.—Rockville Pike has reopened after reports of a chemical smell spurred the evacuation of a building in the 100 block of Rockville Pike.

Concrete solvent caused the odor and was not considered a safety hazard, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service said in a Tweet.

Two people were taken to the hospital for a check-up, according to MCFRS.

Original—Southbound Rockville Pike has been shut down near E. Middle Lane due reports of a chemical smell at a building in the area, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service spokesman Scott Graham told Patch.

Fire officials said in a message from the official MCFRS Twitter handle, that the odor was coming from a building in the 100 block of Rockville Pike and that at least two people said they were sick.
