A man has been charged with burglary and kidnapping after a 3-year-old boy was taken from a North Bethesda apartment Thursday morning.
The boy was rescued, unharmed, police said.
Shervin Hessamfar, 27, of North Bethesda, was arrested without incident after the apartment building was placed on lockdown as police conducted a floor-by-floor search.
The chain of events began when police responded to a car crash at Rockville Pike and Tuckerman Lane at 10:41 a.m.—police said Hessamfar was driving the vehicle, but was nowhere to be found.
When police arrived to the crash scene, a woman reported that a man had broken into her first-floor apartment in the 5200 block of Tuckerman Lane, accessed by breaking a back window. At some point, the building’s fire alarm was pulled.
Meanwhile, a 911 caller reported that a child had been taken from a third-floor apartment in the same building.
Hessamfar and the boy were later found in the stairway of a nearby parking garage, according to police.
