Updated: Road Rage Encounter Taken to Mall Parking Lot Ends in Stabbings

The suspect's 2-year-old daughter remained in the vehicle during the incident, police said.

An altercation between drivers that began at a stop sign and ended in a parking lot at the Westfield Montgomery mall ended with two people being stabbed, according to a Montgomery County Police Department news release. The assailant had a 2-year-old girl in his car at the time, police said.

Two vehicles almost collided at a stop sign on the road that runs around the mall (at 7101 Democracy Blvd., Bethesda) at about 2 p.m. Thursday, police said.

A dispute arose between the drivers, who continued the argument in the parking lot near the mall's Sears store. There, both drivers got out of their cars and the driver of the vehicle that almost struck the other vehicle stabbed the 31-year-old male driver of the other vehicle and the 28-year-old female passenger in the other vehicle, police said. The assailant then got back in his vehicle and drove away, police said.

Police have charged David B. Goldberg, 24, of Potomac in the incident.

Police say he was located at an adjacent mall parking deck and was taken into custody not long after the incident. Police found Goldberg's 2-year-old daughter with Goldberg in his vehicle, police said.

The female victim was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, and the male victim was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police added.

Goldberg, who is being held without bond, has been charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault and two counts of second-degree assault.
