Fire damaged second floor and attic, fire and rescue spokesman says.

A lightning strike caused a fire at a home near Montrose Road and Interstate 270 in Rockville as severe thunderstorms swept through the region on Monday night, the county fire and rescue service reported.

Fire and rescue units responded to a call at a single-family home at 12027 Whippoorwill Lane about 8:45 p.m., said Assistant Chief Scott Graham, a county fire and rescue spokesman.
