Pepco: Car Crash Sparks Fire, Knocks Out Power for 1,400 in Rockville

MCFRS: No major injuries reported.

Nearly 1,400 Pepco customers were without power Friday after a vehicle struck a utility pole at Emory Lane and Fox Valley Drive, a Pepco spokeswoman said.

No major injuries were reported, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman Beth Anne Nesselt said.

Nesselt urged motorists to avoid the area as crews deal with downed wires.

Power has been out since around 4:30 p.m.—about the time the crash was dispatched to MCFRS, said Courtney Nogas, a Pepco spokeswoman.

Power was expected to be restored to 700 customers by 6:30 p.m., Nogas said.

She was unable to give an estimate for how long it would take to restore power to the other 700 customers. 

Nogas said three poles would have to be replaced.
