UPDATE: Threatening Calls to Hospital Do Not Lead to Arrest

Fairfax man said he was going to remove a family member from Shady Grove.

Update, 9:32 p.m.: A potentially dangerous situation involving threats made to Shady Grove Adventist Hospital ended peacefully Saturday night. Hospital security contacted Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) about a Fairfax man threatening to come to the hospital remove a family member who was there as a patient.

MCPD officers were initially concerned that the man might have access to weapons and quickly worked with Fairfax County Police (FCPD) to interview the man in question.

"We were assuming the worst-case scenario, until we could gather intelligence," said Capt. David Falcinelli of MCPD.

Police officials later "determined that the threat was not as high as we previously thought," Capt. Falcinelli said.

Lucy Caldwell of FCPD said officers there responded to a request from MCPD and went to the man's house.

After interviewing him, Caldwell said officers decided there was "no violation of law."

"No arrest has been made," Caldwell said.

Montgomery police first reported the man was arrested by Fairfax police.

Original post: A Fairfax man who made threatening phone calls to Rockville's Shady Grove Adventist Hospital throughout the day Saturday was arrested by Fairfax County Police Saturday evening.

Montgomery County Police Department's Tanya Childs told Patch that MCPD did not receive a call about the threats until just before 7 p.m. But in that call the hospital reported that the man had been calling all day.

Childs said the threats were made entirely over the phone and from another state.

Fairfax County Police Department has not been able to offer details about the arrest. Patch will provide updates as they become available.
