Crime Summary: North Bethesda Swindlers Sought, Aspen Hill Armed Robbery Reported

The following incident information was provided by Montgomery County Police. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

Police said a person near North Bethesda was swindled out of a substantial amount of money in a fraud scheme reported May 3, 2013 in the 12000 block of Rockville Pike.

Police said a male and a female claimed they found some money and offered to split it with the alleged victim. But they asked the person to put up some money in order to prove “trustworthy—then made off with the person’s contribution, police said.

A police spokeswoman was unable to disclose how much money was involved.

Description: Police said the male was black, between 50 and 60 years old, with a salt-and pepper hair, a mustache and a beard. The woman was a black female between 25 and 35 years old, weighing 130 pounds and was wearing a ponytail, a sleeveless shirt and tan pants. They were seen driving a blue Mazda 626 with a Washington, DC license plate.

  • An armed robbery was reported at Longmead Crossing Drive and Homecrest Road, Aspen Hill. Police said two males threatened the victim with a weapon and obtained property. 
  • A robbery was reported in the 7600 block of Moccasin Lane, Rockville on Friday, May 3 at 4:08 p.m. Police said three teenage males were involved.
  • A residential burglary was reported in the 11100 block of Lamplighter Lane, North Potomac between Wednesday, May 1 and Friday, May 3.  No sign of forced entry. Property taken.
  • A 47-year old female and a 52-year-old male were arrested following reports of a residential burglary in the 13600 block of Straw Bale Lane, Gaithersburg between Wednesday, May 1 and Thursday, May 2.  Forced entry. Nothing taken.  
  • A residential burglary was reported in the 6100 block of Lux Lane, North Bethesda on Wednesday, May 1, between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.  Forced entry. Property taken.
