Riders were evacuated from the Rockville Metro station on Monday morning after a woman on a Red Line train claimed she had a bomb, a Metro spokeswoman said.

Montgomery County police investigated the incident, which occurred at about 7:45 a.m., and found no evidence of a bomb, said Taryn McNeil, a Metro spokeswoman. Metro suspended Red Line service between Shady Grove and Grosvenor while police investigated.

Riders were offered free shuttle service between stations, McNeil said. Red Line service resumed about 9:30 a.m.

"The woman was taken into custody and she has been taken to the hospital for a mental health evaluation," McNeil said. "Charges are pending."

Only rail service was affected, she said.

The incident occurred at the height of the morning rush hour. The county is promoting its Ride On bus service from the Rockville and Friendship Heights stations as options for spectators traveling to Congressional Country Club in Bethesda for the U.S. Open, which begins today.

Bus service was not affected, McNeil said.
