Attempted Sexual Assault Near Twinbrook Parkway

Police detectives are investigating an attempted sexual assault that occurred on Monday evening just east of Twinbrook Parkway along the shoulder of Veirs Mill Road, county police said in a news release.

Officers from the county police department's 1st District, Rockville City Police and Maryland-National Capital Park Police responded to a call at about 7:10 p.m.

A 20-year-old woman said that she was walking along Veirs Mill Road toward Aspen Hill Road from the direction of Twinbrook Parkway between 6:15 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. when an unknown man approached her from behind and tried to start a conversation, according to the release.

When the woman continued walking the man grabbed her and attempted to pull her into the nearby woods, the release said. The woman escaped uninjured and called police from a safe location.

A K-9 team searched the area but could not locate the suspect.

The woman described her attacker as a Hispanic male, between 30 and 40 years old, 5-foot 1-inch tall, with a medium build. He was wearing a dark tan jacket, a red shirt and a baseball cap.

The attack occurred along the shoulder of Veirs Mill Road during a period of heavy traffic, leading detectives to believe that passing motorists may have witnessed the assault.
