Apartment Evacuated After Suspected Gas Leak

Six people evaluated for suspected carbon monoxide poisoning.

Six residents of an apartment complex on Veirs Mill Road in Rockville were examined for potential carbon monoxide poisoning on Monday evening.

Their conditions are not believed to be life threatening, said Assist. Chief Scott Graham, a Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service spokesman.

Firefighters responded to a call in the 12500 block of Veirs Mill Road around 5 p.m. on Monday for a child who was ill, Graham said.

The apartment building was evacuated, with a county Ride On bus called in to provide residents somewhere warm to sit until fire investigators can locate the presumed gas leak and ventilate the building, Graham said.
