UPDATE: Police Identify Pedestrian Killed on Veirs Mill Road

Victim was originally from Guatemala.

Update, 8:25 p.m. Dec. 21:

County police detectives have identified the pedestrian that was struck and killed as he tried to cross Veirs Mill Road near the Randolph Crossing Shopping Center early Sunday as Luis Martinez.

Martinez, who was approximately 39 years of age and of an unknown address, was originally from Guatemala, according to a county police news release.

The incident remains under investigation. Investigators continue to ask for the public’s assistance in identifying the driver of a black SUV, which was the second vehicle to strike Martinez. The SUV did not stop.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact the Montgomery County Police Department's Collision Reconstruction Unit at 301-840-2435. Callers may remain anonymous.

Original post, 6:42 a.m. Dec. 18:

A man who remains unidentified died early Sunday morning after he was hit twice crossing Veirs Mill Road, police said. It is on the road in 24 hours.

About 10:23 p.m., the man was crossing Veirs Mill mid-block from the Randolph Crossing Shopping Center. He was hit first by a dark green 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo then again by a dark colored SUV.

He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital and then to the Washington Hospital Center, where he died at 12:48 a.m., police said.

He is described as a Hispanic male, possibly between 35 and 50 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches tall, and weighing 170 pounds. He has black hair and a mustache. He was wearing a black jacket, a blue checkered button-down shirt, blue jeans, and black slip on shoes.
 
The driver of the Monte Carlo has been identified as Patrick Manning Hughley, 47, of the 1000 block of South Belgrade Road in Silver Spring, police said. He was not injured. The driver of the SUV did not stop.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the collision. Anyone who can identify the pedestrian or the driver of the black SUV is asked to call the unit at 301-840-2435. Callers may remain anonymous.
