3-Alarm Fire in Rockville Guts Apartment Building, Closes Main Montgomery County Road

Building was under construction.

A three-alarm fire in Montgomery County swept through an apartment complex early Tuesday, gutting the building and closing a major roadway.

The fire at Gables Upper Rock Apartments at Rock Circle Drive in Rockville has been closed, according to WTOP, which reports commuters can still get to the Metro despite the road closure.

The apartment building is under construction, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Spokesman Pete Piringer told the station. The 150-unit apartment building was nearly complete, but no one was living there yet.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, located next to the apartment building, is closed Tuesday because of the blaze, WTOP reported.
