Montgomery County police are investigating the drowning death of a 15-year-old boy at a Rockville community pool late Saturday, according to a news release.

Officers were called to the pool, located in the 600 block of Tegner Way, in the New Mark Commons area of Rockville at approximately 11 p.m. where they located the victim and initiated CPR prior to the arrival of Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services.

MCFRS transported the victim to Shady Grove Adventist Hospital where additional life-saving efforts were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead, police said. The victim has been identified as Hafis Kareem, 15, of the 700 block of Monroe Street in Rockville.

The investigation revealed that a group of juveniles entered the pool after closing, and at one point, the victim failed to resurface, police said. Individuals in the group called out to a person walking nearby who then called 911.

Police are asking anyone with information about this incident to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070.
