Consequences for Teachers

This Washington Post article at least shows that the Education Department is listening to those who question the wisdom of firing teachers based on what their students do.
My comments: Thank you Arne Duncan for at least some Common Sense with adapting the Common Core. Why do you assume "The need for change is too urgent"? Is this what the for-profit testing companies are telling you? The politicians who need to claim "victory" before their term in office is complete? The need for change today is no more urgent than it was when No Child Left Behind was being implemented 13 years ago. Both students and teachers can do their jobs better if they have clear, steady expectations instead of a moving target. Giving teachers a chance to learn new material is a step in the right direction. It would be a pleasant surprise to hear Duncan telling teachers that he supports the difficult decisions they have to make every day instead of jumping on the change-for-the-sake-of-change bandwagon.
