Rockville Man Wins Big in Virginia Lottery

Warner Ashby won the Old Dominion state's New Year's Millionaire Raffle.

A Rockville man has found riches south of the Potomac.

Warner Ashby, who has worked as a chauffer in the Washington metropolitan area for 20 years, on Thursday claimed a $1 million prize from the Virginia Lottery, WTOP.com reported.

Ashby told WTOP that he bought about 20 tickets for the Virginia Lottery’s New Year’s Millionaire Raffle at a 7-11 on Georgetown Pike in Great Falls, Va. But he didn’t check his numbers until hearing that the winning ticket had been purchased at the store.

"I like my job. I like the people I work with. I'm not ready to give that up,” he told WUSA9.com.

Ashby said that he was reluctant to talk to media about his win for fear that his tips might dry up when passengers learned that they were being driven by a lottery winner.
