Would MCPS Do That?

Home-cooked school lunches, pools in high schools and underground school parking lots?

When reading newspapers and blogs, I’ll come across school things that make me ask, “Would Montgomery County Public Schools do that?”

So, how about MCPS whipping up school lunches from scratch?  Would MCPS ever ponder putting swimming pools in high schools?

(Note to self: Drive over to far Northeast DC to see the new H.D. Woodson High School. I spent two weeks in spring 2008 in the old Woodson, and I don’t believe I ever visited a high school in worst condition than the old one.)

Well, pools might not work for MCPS, but as the new school year kicks in I’m betting that MCPS comes up with new ways to charge students and parents. Would MCPS “tax” poor parents $100 because they could get away with it? I hope not.

Finally, ground hasn’t been broken yet and there are complaints about the new Bethesda-Chevy Chase middle school being too small. But if MCPS could simply deviate from how it views school facilities, perhaps there really is enough space for this new school. So, would MCPS ever build school parking lots underground? Just think of the space saved, allowing the school to expand in ways that adequately meet the true population needs of the community.
