Is Superintendent Starr Going to Jail?

Why would Martians think that all Blair High School kids are white? Why can't Paint Branch students discover the cure for cancer?

Is county schools Superintendent Joshua Starr really going to jail? Why would Martians think that all Blair High School kids are white? Why can’t Paint Branch students discover the cure for cancer? Will White Flint Elementary students walk to school? Do the children of immigrants outperform their non-immigrant peers?

It’s news roundup time!

A View From Jail

Who knew that by sticking to his principles—no student test results used to judge teachers—Superintendent Joshua Starr could end up in jail. On Feb. 6, The Gazette penned the following: “If Montgomery chooses not to comply with the state, the state could withhold aid, Starr could be put in jail, or there could be other consequences, Prouty said.” Click here to read the entire Gazette article.

A View From Mars

If a Martian only had access to the online student  newspapers for Blair and Whitman High Schools, the Martian could safely concluded that earth ‘s teenagers were all white-skinned creatures. Mars to Paint Branch

If Martians had the cure for cancer and they could only share it with students at Paint Branch High School via the school’s WiFi network, we’d be out of luck. Apparently, Paint Branch students are denied access to the school’s WiFi. Click here and fast-forward to the 19th minute to hear Starr tell a Paint Branch student that the reason students are denied access to the school’s WiFi is because Montgomery County Public Schools has not figured out how to provide safe secure access.

Fortunately, schools elsewhere in the nation have figured out these security issues. Click here to read about a few of those schools.

Walking White Flint—Not!

When the redevelopment of White Flint is finished and turned into a walkable urban landscape—apparently that’s the dream—not everyone will be walking. Click here to read a Gazette report about that vision.

My prediction is MCPS will still bus kids into the planned White Flint Elementary School.

So, I Was Right

I love it when I’m right. It looks like what I have been saying about black immigrant students outperforming native born black students is right on the money. Click here to read a fairly extensive study into the lives of second-generation Americans.
