A short tour in Chicago

My wife and I had a good time recently in Chicago at the World Future Society conference. We had a little time for sightseeing so we took the architectural First Lady River cruise and enjoyed a 90-minute lecture about the special buildings along the river. My favorites were the Wrigley Building and Trump Tower. The size of the Merchandise Mart —larger than the Pentagon— formerly owned by the Kennedy family, is more than impressive.

Many tourists were in town enjoying the cooler weather “up North,” the beaches, the great parks, walks along the Chicago River and Lake Michigan, sightseeing, and many fine restaurants,

We took a friend’s advice and had dinner at Shaw’s Crab House. We had a very fine time including King Crab legs, raspberry pie, and of course a nice bottle of wine. The Metropolitan Club provided another special night.

We were very impressed with Chicago. There is much to commend it. It may be the best overall city for visitors in the United States, except for the winter weather.
