Work Adjustment Training - For Young Adults with Special Needs
JSSA’s Transitioning Youth Work Adjustment Training (WAT) is a five-
week program that supports young adults with special needs transitioning
into the workplace. Students learn about the world of work and how to
navigate the job search process. A maximum of 8 students allows
individualized attention from instructor(s).
The curriculum examines key components of a job search. Students will:
- Unlock job skills and interests by participating in career exploration exercises
- Take a behind-the-scenes look at employers by visiting several work environments
- Create reference sheet, resume and cover letter and use iPads for job searching
- Research a company of interest and give a presentation to peers in class
- Participate in filmed mock interviews to critique and learn appropriate interview skills
- Learn about and practice soft skills necessary to succeed at work
(i.e. dress for success, proper communication and body language)
