Glorystar Children's Chorus - Winter Concert

The
Glorystar Children’s Chorus presents its annual Winter
Concert
on
Saturday, December 14 at 2:00 pm at the Chinese Bible Church of
Maryland, 4414 Muncaster Mill Rd, Rockville, MD. Come and celebrate
the holiday season as our four choirs–Beginner, Training, Concert
and Chamber--perform a rich program of Eastern and Western Holiday
music appealing to audiences of all ages. The program includes
choral music from around the world; from Baroque to contemporary and
living composers; and in 8 different languages including Chinese,
English, German, Latin, Italian, Spanish, Zulu, and Hebrew. The
children put anyone in the best holiday mood with WINTER IS COMMING.
The audience will learn the Chinese folk song 鳳陽花鼓
(Fèng
yáng huāgǔ or Flower Drum Song) and join Glorystar Children's
Chorus in a festive sing-along. For
tickets and information
,
call 240-277-7629 or email info@glorystar.org.

The Program features 快樂的聚會-Kuàilè de jùhuì (HAPPY REUNION) – Aboriginal Taiwanese, arranged by Chuang-Sheng Lu. You can still hear this song in Taiwan's mountains when the Shaio Tribe makes the sweet rice cake during the harvest festival. Ms. Jeng worked closely with Chuang-Sheng Lu at the Rong-Shing Children’s Chorus in Taiwan, and is her honor to bring this music to the DC area. The audience will learn the Chinese Folk Song 鳳陽花鼓-Fèng yáng huāgǔ (FLOWER DRUM SONG), while the Glorystar children imitate the lively and complicated rhythm of the drums. Pinyin phonetics will be provided for pronunciation.

Other featured pieces include J.S. Bach's CRADLE SONG (From Christmas Oratorio), G.F. Händel's ART THOU TROUBLED, contemporary America composer R. Johnson's KYRIE ELEISON (perform by the Boys choir), the upbeat Trinidadian Calypso VIRGIN MARY HAS A BABY BOY arranged by S. Hartfield, and the sacred words of L'DOR VADOR by Meir Finkelstein. Africa and Spain are represented by GHANA ALLELUIA , and RÍU, RÍU, CHÍU; and American favorites with YES, VIRGINIA (There is a Santa Claus), and WINTER IS COMMING.

After this performance, the Glorystar Children's Chorus presents four more concerts this season: Vocal Concert on March 29, Sing with Me on April 5, Outreach Concert for Seniors on May 10, and our Spring Concert on June 1, 2014.
