Kenneth Martin, highly respected sculptor, woodworker and beloved teacher, brings his sculpture and furniture together for the first time in Sculpture and Casework. This solo exhibition at VisArts offers an extended look at Martin’s extraordinary ability to unite metaphysics and materials in singular objects both functional and contemplative. Offhand gestures meet formal design. The surprising and quirky nestle with elegance and subtlety. Martin’s work, made primarily out of wood, swerves between improvisation and plan with stimulating visual power.
