Carrie Newcomer

Institute of Musical Traditions in conjunction with Saint Mark Presbyterian Church  presents Grammy award winning singer/songwriter Carrie Newcomer. She will be performing in concert accompanied by Gary Walters at Saint Mark Presbyterian Church. Carrie Newcomer has emerged as a respected and recognized artistic voice for the progressive spiritual community, but her music cuts across secular and spiritual boundaries to speak to a wider world. Newcomer has performed and toured nationally and internationally, seamlessly moving from concert halls to colleges and conducting workshops as well as volunteering for environmental and social justice fundraisers.

Carrie Newcomer, who has released 13 albums under Rounder Record, has been quoted as saying “Part of my work as a writer is to put into language and music, moments of wonder that have no words." Her music portrays that universal vision in an uplifting and inspirational way. Wayne Robins eloquently states, “Her pure, pitch-perfect voice has a slight huskiness that conveys the "heart" in heartland,” (Billboard 2008).
