Rockville City Councilman Tom Moore says he’s decided to run for Montgomery County Council.

Moore, who was re-elected to his second term on Rockville’s City Council in November, is seeking the District 3 seat being vacated by Montgomery County Councilman Phil Andrews, who’s running for Montgomery County Executive.

In an email to Patch on Wednesday Moore said he thinks his experience as a city councilman would serve him well, were he elected as a county councilman:

“My experience on the Rockville City Council has prepared me to represent Rockville and Gaithersburg on the County Council.  My values are a good match for the district, I have the strength to put those values into action, and I have the record to back it up.”

As of Tuesday evening, no one had officially filed for candidacy, according to records from the Maryland Board of Elections.

Gaithersburg Mayor Sidney Katz and Gaithersburg City Councilman Ryan Spiegel have also said they plan to run for the District 3 seat, which includes Gaithersburg and Rockville.
