Rockville City Council Member Considering Run For County Council

Moore: 'I think the experience I had helping run Rockville would bear very directly to what I could bring to the county. '

Rockville City Councilman Tom Moore is the latest to express interest in running for Montgomery County Council.

“I've not made the decision to do it, but I'd like very much to do it,” Moore said. “I'm trying hard to get my ducks in a row. I'm not sure that I'll be able to.”

Moore, an attorney who lives in Rockville's West End, is serving his second term on the Rockville City Council. He was re-elected in November as part of the Team Rockville slate.

Councilman Phil Andrews currently holds the District 3 seat. But Andrews created an opening when he decided to run for Montgomery County Executive in 2014. Former County Executive Douglas M. Duncan, a former Rockville mayor, is also running for County Executive.

Moore told Patch that he began giving serious thought to entering the race after former Rockville Mayor Rose Krasnow backed away.

“I would never run against her," Moore said. “But she let me know in October that she wasn't going to run. My wife turned to me right before the Rockville election and said, 'So, are you thinking about that?'”

The Democratic primary is June 24, 0214. The filing deadline is Feb. 25, 2014.

Gaithersburg City Councilman Ryan SpiegelGaithersburg Mayor Sidney Katz and Local businessman Guled H. Kassim have also expressed interest in winning the Democratic bid for the council seat.
