Newton Elected Rockville Mayor; 'Team Rockville' Wins Council Seats

Bridget Donnell Newton was elected Mayor of Rockville, according to unofficial results announced Tuesday night.

Newton beat fellow council member Mark Pierzchala by 422 votes, earning 53 percent of the votes cast on Tuesday. 

Beryl L. Feinberg, incumbent Tom Moore, Virginia Onley, and Julie Palakovich-Carr were elected as council members—all of them were part of the Team Rockville slate led by Pierzchala.

The Team Rockville council candidates beat out Donald H. Hadley, who is chairman of the city’s planning board, and Claire Marcuccio Whittaker, who is the sister of prior mayor Phyllis Marcuccio. 

Newton served two terms as council and was supported by Marcucico and former Councilman John Hall. Marcucico and Hall opted not to run for re-election.

According to the unofficial results, 6,685 ballots were cast in the city’s 10 voting districts. The results include same-day registrations at City Hall and absentee ballots. 

Election results will become official on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
