VIDEO: Rockville Honors Martin Luther King Jr.

The city's 39th annual ceremony celebrated "Fulfilling the Dream."

The City of Rockville's 39th annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebration, held Monday at Richard Montgomery High School, featured musical and dance performances as well as guest speaker Maureen Bunyan of ABC 7 News.

The Rockville Mayor and Council and the city's Human Rights Commission sponsored the program, which celebrated the lasting legacy of King and the civil right movement.

Along with Bunyan, speakers included Mayor Phyillis Marcuccio, Human Rights Commission Chairwoman Debbie Dwyer and international speakers and high school foreign exchange students who shared their cultural experiences while living in America.

Thomas S. Wooton High School student Byron A. Johns II was honored with the Dr. Martin Luther King Youth Award, which recognizes the outstanding efforts of a high school student who has helped advance the goals and dreams of King in an academic setting or in the community.

The F. Michael Taff Award, named in honor of the dedicated human right activist and late former chairman of the Rockville Human Rights Commission, was awarded to Martha Bohorquez of the Jewish Social Service Agency.
