The Nutcracker

  • Where:  Fitzgerald Theatre, F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre, 603 Edmonston Dr., Rockville
  • When:  Saturday, Dec. 8, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 9, 2 p.m.
  • Description:  Rockville Civic Ballet presents the holiday classic, The Nutcracker.
  • Cost: $12-16

Go Ape at Rock Creek Regional Park

  • Where:  Rock Creek Regional Park, Derwood
  • When:  Saturday, Dec. 8, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
  • Description:  Go Ape will offer $10 off all ticket prices to their tree top adventure course.  $10 of all ticket sales will also be donated to the Montgomery Parks Foundation.
  • Cost:  Kids: $35 / Adults: $55

Miracle on 34th Street

  • Where:  Arts Barn, 311 Kent Square Rd, Gaithersburg
  • When: Friday, Nov. 30 – Saturday, Dec. 15, 8 p.m. 
  • Description:  The Arts Barn presents Miracle on 34th Street as a live radio play on stage.
  • Cost: $14-16

17th Annual, Gaithersburg Winter Lights Festival

  • Where:  Seneca Creek State Park, 11950 Clopper Rd, Gaithersburg
  • When: Sunday, Nov. 25 – Sunday, Dec. 30, Sun, Tues-Thurs 6-9 p.m., Fri. – Sat. 6 p.m. – 10 p.m.
  • Description:  3.5 mile drive through 350 light displays, 60 of them animated.
  • Cost:  Monday – Thursday: $12, Friday – Sunday: $15, cash only at the gate.

Festival of Lights

  • Where:  9900 Stoneybrook Drive, Kensington
  • When:  Saturday, Nov. 30 – Saturday, Jan. 1, 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. 
  • Description:  More than 600,000 lights. International crèche exhibit, 18 indoor decorated trees, outdoor life-sized nativity, and live performances nightly.
  • Cost:  Free

A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story of Christmas

  • Where:  Olney Theatre Center, 2001 Olney-Sandy Spring Road, Olney
  • When:  Friday, Nov. 30 – Saturday, Dec. 29, 7:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.
  • Description:  The Olney Theatre Center presents Paul Morella’s solo version of a Christmas Carol.
  • Cost: $26

Ukrainian Christmas Bazaar

  • Where: 166311 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring
  • When: Saturday, Dec. 8, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 9, 12 p.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Description:  Annual Ukrainian Christmas Bazaar, including traditional Ukrainian crafts, gifts, food and more.
  • Cost:  Free

Christmas Bazaar

  • Where:  1607 Grace Church Rd, Silver Spring
  • When:  Saturday, Dec. 8, 9 a.m.
  • Description:  Grace Episcopal Church holds their annual Christmas Bazaar.  Crafts, jewelry, books, baked goods and more.  Lunch available.  Proceeds support the church’s ministries, including outreach and music programs.
  • Cost:  Free

Garden of Lights - Winter Walk-through Holiday Light Display

  • Where:Brookside Gardens, 1800 Glenallan Ave, Silver Spring
  • When: Sunday through Thursday 5:30-9:00pm, Friday and Saturday 5:30-10:00pm and on New Year’s Eve until 9:00pm.
  • Description:  16th annual holiday light display. Nightly musical performances by local musicians as well as refreshments and shopping.
  • Cost: $25

Twinbrook Swimming Pool (TSP) can hold three public open house days to introduce the pool toRead More perspective members. This year the dates are June 8, July 13 and August 10. The cost is $5 per person. The TSP has a big insurance policy to cover swimmers. Not sure free is appropriate. As a private membership pool, there are regulations that must be followed.

If you swim on the 3 open public swim days at the Twinbrook Swimming Pool, you can consider it aRead More trial. Liability insurance does cost money. Entrance of $5 is a real bargain. Members pay to maintain the pool.

It sounds like your daughter and god daughter don't have their own phones? No matter my children's age, I make it a point to know the running times of the movies they're at, especially if I am the one who is going to be picking them up. We warn children--especially girls and young women--not to go to strangers for help. We know that of the three girls, the man kidnapped one who was his daughter's friend after giving her a lift.
