Rockville Rewind: March 7-11

Biotech props, Magruder hoops drops and the wild weather watch.

A week that began with a gubernatorial celebration of innovations in biotechnology also included the end of the road for the Magruder Colonels boys basketball team and likely for the chances of same-sex marriage legislation during this year's Maryland General Assembly.

Gov. Martin O'Malley toured Montgomery County on Monday, cutting the ribbon on a  after to recognize the biotech for landing a federal contract worth up to $170 million for the development of a flu vaccine.

The Rockville City Council tackled on Monday. One of the highlights of the meeting was a visit by Raynell Cooper, a Richard Montgomery High senior who won the recent "Jeopardy!" Teen Tournament. Cooper received a proclamation and some lovely take-home gifts from the council and announced that he would donate part of his $75,000 winnings to the city's recreation and parks fund to help kids go to camp.
