Today | Mayor, city planner talk with state Sustainable Growth Commission

The Maryland Sustainable Growth Commission will meet at Glenview Mansion in Rockville today. Rockville Mayor Phyllis Marcuccio is expected to give opening remarks. Susan Swift, director of Community Planning and Development Services is expected to talk about the city’s development efforts. She says she plans to discus development at Twinbrook and at Rockville Town Center.

The Maryland Sustainable Growth Commission is made up of state department heads and business and community representatives who offer recommendations on statewide growth and development issues. What impression does Swift hope to leave with the commission, as far as Rockville is concerned?

“That they should continue to seek the input of citizens and local officials that have to implement the rules that the state passes,” Swift said.

You said it | “She doesn’t have a ‘snowball’s’ chance’ chance.”

That was the response from Patch reader Jeff Hawkins about Del. Heather Mizeur’s bid for Maryland governor. Last week Mizeur, a Democrat from Takoma Park, became the third candidate to formally announce intentions to run for Maryland governor in 2014. If she were elected, she would be the first female and first openly gay governor. In his comment posted at Rockville Patch, Hawkins appears to take issue with part of Mizeur’s statement:

"It’s time to fundamentally change the way we do business, the way we govern." Being the skeptical type that I am.....what exactly does she mean by this? I believe we have all heard or viewed these words before. She doesn't have a "snowball's" chance.
