Raynell Revels in a Win, Gary-land Comes to Town Square and Ike Leggett Wants You
Running around town with the rundown.
Cue the Queen song. OK, "we" are not the champions, but Raynell Cooper is. Raynell makes history as the first person to lead-off "Rockville Rundown" two days in a row. (Oh, and there's that "Jeopardy!" victory too.)
Here's a mid-afternoon edition of the rundown:
- , took the $75,000 first prize as the champion of the "Jeopardy!" Teen Tournament. Raynell's victorious final round was broadcast Wednesday. He left 14 other contestants singing along with "Weird Al." It's said that history is written by the victors, but here's the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's view from second place. We did our best to tweet a play-by-play of Raynell's final round victory. ("Jeopardy!" play-by-play is tougher than calling hockey—and color commentary is darn near impossible.) But the best tweets were brought to our attention by The Washington Examiner and came from Raynell himself.
- What is wrong with the Terps? And can the Maryland men run the table at the ACC tournament—their only hope of going to "The Dance" after an atrocious showing in South Florida last night against Miami? You might have a chance to ask the man himself as "The Gary Williams Radio Show" with Johnny Holliday broadcasts live at 7 tonight from in Rockville Town Square.
- The Rockville City Council received its final fiscal 2012 budget preview on Monday night. The proposed budget will be presented on March 28. For a look at the budget process see the city's Web site. If you'd like to wade into the weeds of budget minutiae (we chose not to in ) video of Monday's meeting is available online. For more context, The Gazette's Sean Patrick Norris writes that the council still must figure out how to bridge a $172,000 budget gap in the $65.6 million general fund budget.
- The county is looking for residents to represent residential and business interests on the Western Montgomery County Citizens Advisory Board. (Picture Ike Leggett in an Uncle Sam costume pointing at you.) The application deadline is Wednesday.
- Driving out of the Patch? Work is underway to resurface a 1.4 mile section of University Boulevard (MD 193) between Arcola Avenue and Colesville Road (US 29)—roughly the stretch between Northwood and Montgomery Blair high schools. Motorists in the Four Corners area of Silver Spring should expect delays due to lane closures along University Boulevard between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and overnight between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. The project should be completed by fall, weather permitting.
