Potential Snowfall Accumulation Increases as Warning is Issued

Winter storm warning overnight; Tuesday morning commute could be dicey.

The National Weather Service this afternoon issued a winter weather warning for Monday night into Tuesday with the latest forecasts of potential snowfall amounts calling for more snow than previously predicted.

The warning is in effect for Montgomery County from 9 p.m. tonight until 7 a.m. tomorrow.

The alert calls for a brief period of sleet changing to snow around midnight. Snow will be heavy at times with accumulations of 4 to 8 inches. The highest snowfall amounts are possible upcounty.

Other details of the forecast could mean trouble for the morning commute. The heaviest snowfall is expected between midnight and 5 a.m. Temperatures in the middle 30s this evening are expected to fall into the upper 20s by Tuesday morning with northeast winds at 10 to 20 mph. Hazardous travel conditions are expected.
