Patch Picks: Student Athletes

Some people talk about sports. These student athletes 'Just do it!'

Go to any Rockville park, school or recreation center and you’ll see people of all ages participating in their favorite sport.

The young—and most driven—among us balance their studies in the classroom and athletics on the field, court and track. They're some of our future leaders. Get to know them here:

  • plays on the varsity volleyball team. Last summer she participated in the USA Volleyball Junior National Championship in Atlanta, Ga.
  • The plays with heart and is rebuilding a storied program. The varsity and junior varsity teams are entering the final weeks of the season. Catch them while you can.
  • is the quarterback for the Patriots football team. Wootton celebrates homecoming this week and hosts Watkins Mill High School tomorrow. To learn more about Wootton football click here.
  • High school hoops are just around the corner. participated in the 38th annual Capital Classic game last April. The Capital Classic features some of the best high school players in the nation. 
  • , of Rockville, became a national champion at the U.S. National Short Track Speedskating Championships in Weston, Wisc. in March. Wood won medals in four distances, and finished first in the intermediate men's 1500 meters. 
  • Wootton High School boys lacrosse played in the state semifinals last May. Matt Greenblatt scored five goals and Austin Shoenfeld scored four goals in the 14-13 in loss.
