And now, the “Cool It Now” (new) edition of “The Rundown”:

  • County Executive Ike Leggett will host a virtual town hall meeting from 12:30-1:30 p.m. on Thursday. You can submit questions now or join the online discussion in progress by clicking here. Answers to submitted questions will be posted at the beginning of the live session. Others will be selected during the live discussion. Leggett has held 18 virtual town halls since taking office in late 2006. The last was on June 22.
  • Leggett has said he won’t seek elected office after his term expires in 2015. So who might succeed him as county exec? Maryland Juice recently offered up some intriguing possibilities, including a possible return for a certain former Rockville mayor.
  • As students returned to school on Aug. 29, Rockville Patch was the first to report on on their first day back. in today’s edition after demonstrators returned to the school for Thursday’s back-to-school night.
  • A former colleague of mine at The Gazette used Facebook to recall the good work that community newspaper did on Sept. 11, 2001 and posted this slideshow of photographs from that tragic day and its aftermath. I spent the morning of the attacks writing probably my least-read article ever about the Commissioners of Poolesville after covering a Monday night meeting. A week later, a confluence of events led to me getting tapped to write this contribution to The Gazette’s coverage.

  • The Rockville Planning Commission meets at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at City Hall. The agenda includes a briefing on the Twinbrook Metro Place project. As The Gazette reported in August, the proposed project would bring a five-building, 1.135 million-square-foot complex with a hotel, health club and office space to a Rockville Pike shopping center site that is home to .
  • With Friday's filing deadline in the rearview, the height of campaign season for the Nov. 8 city election is upon us. Look for plenty of campaign coverage on Rockville Patch in the days ahead. In the meantime, one Rockville blogger is questioning incumbent Mayor Phyllis Marcuccio’s fundraising strategy.
  • hosts a free child safety seat inspection from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday. Nationally-certified car seat technicians from Fitzgerald, the county fire and rescue service and county police will check the condition and proper installation of child safety seats.
