MTA: April Was Record-Breaking Month for MARC Ridership

Spokesman: Average daily ridership on all three lines reached record high.

April was a record-breaking month for MARC train commuters, according to the Maryland Transit Administration.

Average daily ridership on the Penn, Camden and Brunswick lines reached 38,112 in April, MTA spokesman Terry Owens told Patch. The prior record was 37,034, set in November 2012, MTA said in a news release Tuesday.

The Brunswick Line is part of the MARC (Maryland Area Regional Commuter) train system and carries commuters between Washington, DC, and Martinsburg, WV, stopping through Rockville along the way.

Owens said the Brunswick line saw a 4.4 percent increase in ridership in April, with a total of 179,281 riders that month.

Owens said the boost in ridership could be attributed to performance and the overall cost.

According to the MTA, MARC trains were on schedule 95 percent of the time in April.

For example, a one-way ticket from Germantown to Union Station, in Washington, DC, costs $5 according to MTA’s website.

According to WMATA’s website, a one-way ticket from Shady Grove—the Metro station closest to Germantown—to Union Station would cost between $3.50 and $5.75.
