Montgomery County Celebrates Diwali

Also known as the festival of lights, Diwali is recognized for the first time by the Montgomery County government

The County Executive's office held its first Diwali celebration on Monday in Rockville.

The five-day festival, which has importance for Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs and Jains, is usually celebrated in October or November. This year's celebration concludes on Tuesday.

Various speakers, including Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett (D), stressed the cultural significance of the event and its significance in the Asian American community.
