- It’s official: Planning Commissioner Dion Trahan and City Councilman Mark Pierzchala have been certified as candidates for the City Council and will appear on the Nov. 8 ballot, the city clerk’s office said this afternoon.
- In other , Councilwoman Bridget Donnell Newton will hold a campaign kickoff announcement at 6:30 p.m. on Friday on the sidewalk in front of the proposed grocery store at Rockville Town Square. The store site is at 225 North Washington Street.
- Speaking of the proposed grocery, for those who missed it, The Gazette recently reported that Tiger Beer Wine & Deli has dropped its appeal of a county board's decision to grant the new market a beer and wine license. The owner of Richmond, Va.-based Ellwood Thompson's Market to open sometime in late winter or early spring.

- Montgomery County Public Libraries are looking for students age 14 to 18 for its Teen Advisory Group. TAG members participate in social networking; write book, film and music reviews; identify authors, local teen artists and weblinks to feature and interview; and help design new teen spaces in libraries. Members serve from September through May and earn Student Service Learning hours.
Applications are being accepted through Saturday.
