Get Out: Patch's Pick-and-Choose Weekend Planner

Need a few ideas to get your weekend going? Look no further.

It’s Thursday. The weekend is so close you can almost taste it. Downside? You’ve got no idea what to do during your two days of freedom.

Patch is coming to the rescue. We've picked out some of the best events around Montgomery County and in D.C. for your done-work-outta-here time. Is it 5 p.m. on Friday yet?

Why Go: We'll let the event listing say it: "'Once On This Island' was nominated for eight Tony Awards, including 'Best Musical,' when it opened on Broadway in 1991.  This fairy tale features fun Caribbean music and a message that true love will conquer any challenges.  Check out our website at http://svhsdrama.yolasite.com/ for more information and for links to online ticketing."

Where/When: , 202 Meadow Hall Dr., Rockville. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Why Go: Is your thumb a lighter shade of green—or maybe not green at all? Don't worry, the master gardeners at Twinbrook Library will be on hand to get your spring planting off on the right footing. 

Pricing: Free.

Where/When: 401 F St NW, Washington. Throughout the weekend, starting at 9 a.m. daily.

Why Go: One of the first harbingers of spring happens to be in our collective back yard. Make it a point to head on down to the tidal basin this weekend to peek at the trees while their in full bloom. 

Pricing: Free.

4. 2011 Kennedy Center Spring Gala

Where/When: The Kennedy Center Opera House, 2700 F S., NW Washington. Sunday, 8:30 p.m.

Why Go: Performers will include Smokey Robinson, Renee Fleming, members of the New York City Ballet, and others. The gala will celebrate "President Michael M. Kaiser's 10 years at the helm of the Kennedy Center with a star-studded evening."

Pricing: Tickets are $35 to $150.

5. Lil Wayne: I'm Still Music Tour

Where/When: Verizon Center, 601 F St., NW, Washington. Sunday, 7 p.m.

Why Go: The show will also feature Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross and Travis Barker with MixMaster Mike.

Pricing: Tickets range from $49.75 to $125.75.
