Get Efficient on the Cheap: Shop Maryland Energy Weekend

This weekend, buy Energy Star appliances tax-free.

Looking for a new air contitioner? Heater? The way the weather's been, it could go either way.

But either way, in luck. This weekend, Maryland shoppers can buy Energy Star-approved air conditioners, dehumidifiers, or a number of other products tax-free.

The weekend before the third Monday in February is Shop Maryland Energy weekend. The state’s six percent sales tax will be waived Saturday, Sunday and Monday on the following Energy Star items:

  • Air conditioners
  • Clothes washers and dryers
  • Furnaces
  • Heat pumps
  • Boilers
  • Solar water heaters (tax-exempt at all times now)
  • Standard size refrigerators
  • Dehumidifiers
  • Programmable thermostats
  • Compact fluorescent light bulbs

Appliances receive the Energy Star seal if they are compliant with certain energy efficient standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency. 

And for additional savings, BGE customers can schedule a free Energy Check-up and get tips for efficiency as well as some free efficiency technologies for the home.
