Good Friday, Rockville! We’ve made it through the heat and the weekend’s here!
It’s the last weekend of the school year. The last day for students is Thursday, then it’s permanent weekend (well, at least until August—I’m sure students would much prefer they be on something best described by Aerosmith’s Facebook status circa 1987. You know, before Facebook—and “.”).
Until then, let’s get into in with this “school’s (almost) out for summer” edition of “The Rundown”:

County police also are offering tips for those traveling by car to shuttle lots at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds and Crown Farm property in Gaithersburg with buses that will take spectators to Congressional. Police advise spectators to expect “metal detection screening, similar to what you experience at airport security.”
For more on the tournament click here. - East Rockville Civic Association will hold its at The Pump House, at 401 South Horners Lane. The event is rain or shine and will include live entertainment and a moon bounce. How can you stay away from a moon bounce?
- The on Monday will discuss proposed legislation that would bar county employees from roadside panhandling while on “official work hours.” The legislation could still permit county fire and rescue employees to collect at parking lots and in other public spaces away from roadways as part of their annual “Fill the Boot” fundraiser, County Councilman Phil Andrews (D-Dist. 3) of Gaithersburg has said.
- The County Council brings its traveling road show to Redland Middle School at 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Council members will field questions from residents in a town hall meeting format. Expected topics of discussion include the county budget, the performance of power utilities—including Pepco—following storms, the Intercounty Connector, traffic, schools and the redevelopment of existing neighborhoods and business areas.
