Death, Taxes and 'The Rundown'

It's the most fun of life's guarantees.

Good Monday, Rockville.

OK, we put it off for three extra days. But it's finally here ... Tax Day.

If Uncle Sam and the federal tax code haven't played in your favor this year it's time to give up this to this guy.

It's the "the tax man cometh" edition of "The Rundown":

  • If you need to drown your sorrows about how much you owe—and need some drink specials to do it, or if you're looking for a way to spend that refund, consider heading to at Rockville Town Square for their "Put Your Calculators Away Tax Day Party."
  • The Rockville City Council will not meet tonight in observance of the first night of Passover. The mayor and council are back in action on April 25, with a meeting that will include a work session on the budget, including RedGate Golf Course.
  • See fewer (or no) school buses on the road this morning? Spring break begins today for county schools. School resumes April 26.
  •  hosts a "God Made These Hands Easter Concert and Resurrection of Life Bone Marrow Drive" on Saturday. The concert features classical/gospel pianist Donnell Josiah from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and will be followed by a bone marrow registration drive from 7:30 to 9:30  p.m. Bone marrow donations are needed for individuals who are suffering with life-threating bone marrow diseases, leukemia and Lupus. With a low percentage of matches for ethnic and racial minorities in the national bone marrow registry, potential donors who are African-American, Hispanic, Native American or Asian are especially encouraged to come out and get tested.  For more information call Rocky Twyman at 301-768-1076.
  • The first Mommy and Me and Daddies Too on the Square will be held 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesday at Rockville Town Square. On the third Tuesday of each month through October, Town Square stores will provide lunch specials, story time, arts and crafts, sing-a-longs, prizes and more. The activities are free (except for the $1-per-hour Town Square garage parking). Registration is required.
  • Last week we told you about . Not to be outdone, the Montgomery County Public Libraries announced Friday that they now have their own app for iPhone and iPad users. The app, named BookMyne (which sounds like something my friend's 2-year-old might say—and we thought libraries were all about sharing) allows customers to locate books, audio, video and other materials and put those materials on hold for pickup at branch locations. It'll also tell customers how to get to those locations, with maps and hours information. And, as with the Patch app, there are plans to expand the library app to non-Apple smartphones.
