Clue: A Teen Tournament Finalist, School of Rock(ville) and Free Ice Cream

A: What is Wednesday's Rockville Rundown?

At a long ago family reunion my Aunt Emma—my great aunt—proved that she was a great Trivial Pursuit player.

She had to have been in her late 80s—she lived to be 102—but she was sharp, able to instantly recall facts, figures, historical events. She lived through a lot of them, I later realized. No fair Aunt Emma. Which is what always amazes me about young people who excel on quiz shows. How have they fit all that knowledge into their brains in such a short time on this earth?

While I was pondering such mysteries, Raynell Cooper was studying. And that's why the story of his success leads off today's rundown:

Find out what's happening in Rockvillewith free, real-time updates from Patch.

  • You can watch Cooper, a 16-year-old senior at Richard Montgomery High School, in the second and final day of the “Jeopardy!” Teen Tournament finals at 7:30 p.m. tonight on ABC 7. He talked about the experience with our Tomás F. Baliño.
  • Are you an aspiring Ansel Adams? The City of Rockville is sponsoring an environmental photo contest. The deadline for submissions is April 1. No foolin'.
  • March 14 is the deadline to apply for the School of Rock(ville), a four-day program in civics offered to students in grades 10-12 by the city's Neighborhood Resources Division. The program helps students build their civic leadership abilities by "learning about the foundation and principles of government" and "demystifying local government." We can only assume they are not made to sit through an entire City Council meeting.
  • With the weather warming up, ice cream is increasingly on our minds. How else to explain the second ice cream-related rundown item in less than a week? Put it on your calendar: March 26 is a day to sleep in. It's not in our Patch, but just up Route 355 in Gaithersburg, Bruster's Real Ice Cream offers you . On Customer Appreciation Day all customers wearing their pajamas receive a free single-scoop waffle cone. Not bad. A  can really get behind this Western Pennsylvania-based chain. Even if they root for the wrong school.
  • When moms talk, people listen (or should). You should also join today's Moms Talk conversation, where back-talk is encouraged. You won't even get grounded.
